The Battery Geeks

At The Battery Hp laptop battery Geeks, we manufacture custom external lithium batteries for a plethora of electronics equipment, including laptop computers, portable dvd players, IPOD, Cellphone, Digital Camera, etc. Our batteries are designed to have a capacity of up to three times or more of that of a brand-new manufacturer's standard-issue internal battery. This can translate to up to twelve hours or more of additional up time without having to change a battery. You can simply plug your BatteryGeek.net battery into your computer, and continue working as normal. Our batteries Hp F4486B battery come with a 100 percent guarantee. We are fully committed to your satisfaction and we will work with you to find the best battery for your given needs.

We have a whole range of external batteries for just about any laptop model currently available. As each laptop user has different battery needs, we offer a customized service where we walk you through the battery selection process. One powerful attribute of our external notebook batteries is that they can be combined with your notebook's own internal battery. Simply put, you do not have to remove your internal battery in order to make use of our external batteriesHp CGR-B1870AE battery . This allows you to combine the total battery time of both batteries, potentially giving you over several extra hours of usage. While our external notebook batteries are indeed powerful and they can boost your notebook usage time to up to ten hours or more, the simple fact of the matter is that some functions are powerful battery drainers. Watching DVDs on your notebook for example will reduce the battery time significantly. With our external notebook batteries, however, it is quite possible to watch a few DVDs and still have battery Hp Pavilion ZD7000 battery power left over to surf the Net, work on reports, or do whatever you need.

The GeekPod is specifically designed to work with iPods and it provides over 100 hours of additional play time. Our battery is able to do this because it is a high quality lithium ion battery. Lithium ion is the premiere choice in batteries due to its high charge capacity and resistance to the "memory effect," which can cause rechargeable batteries to gradually lose their ability to hold a full charge.

Our collection of Portable DVD Player Batteries Hp PP2182D battery helps you get more movie time per charge. Our Portable DVD Player Batteries are compatible with most of the Portable DVD Players available these days. Our Portable DVD Player External Battery Pack gives as high as 14 hours of additional movie time per charge.

How to prolong lithium-based batteries (2)

There are no remedies to restore lithium-ion once worn out. A momentary improvement in performance is noticeable Hp laptop battery when heating up the battery. This lowers the internal resistance momentarily but the condition reverts back to its former state when the temperature drops. Cold temperature will increase the internal resistance.

If possible, store the battery Laptop Battery in a cool place at about a 40% state-of-charge. Some reserve charge is needed to keep the battery and its protection circuit operational during prolonged storage. Avoid keeping the battery at full charge and high temperature. This is the case when placing a cell phone or spare battery in a hot car. Running a laptop computer on the mains has a similar temperature problem. While the battery is kept fully charged, the inside temperature during operation rises to 45¡ãC (113¡ãF).

Removing the battery Hp pavillion zx5000 battery from the laptop when running on fixed power protects the battery from heat. With the concern of the battery overheating and causing fire, a spokesperson for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises to eject the battery of affected laptops and to run the machines on a power cord. It should be noted that on a power outage, unsaved works will be lost.
The question is often asked, should the laptop be disconnected from the main when not in use? Under normal circumstances, it should not matter with lithium-ion. Once the battery Hp zx5000 battery is fully charged, no further charge is applied. However, there is always the concern is malfunction of the AC adapter, the laptop or the battery.

A large number of lithium-ion batteries for cell phones are being discarded under the warranty return policy. Some failed batteries are sent to service centers or the manufacturer, where they are refurbished. Studies show that 80%-90% of the returned batteries can be repaired and returned to service.

Some lithium-ion batteries Hp PP2200 battery fail due to excessive low discharge. If discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, the internal safety circuit opens and the battery appears dead. A charge with the original charger is no longer possible. Some battery analyzers (Cadex) feature a boost function that reactivates the protection circuit of a failed battery and enables a recharge. However, if the cell voltage has fallen below 1.5V/cell and has remained in that state for a few months, a recharge should be avoided because of safety concerns. To prevent failure, never store the battery Hp Pavilion dv2000 batter fully discharged. Apply some charge before storage, and then charge fully before use.
All personal computers (and some other electronic devices) contain a battery for memory back up. This battery is commonly a small non-rechargeable lithium cell, which provides a small current when the device is turned off. The PC uses the battery to retain certain information when the power is off. These are the BIOS settings, current date and time, as well as resource assignment for Plug and Play systems. Storage does shorten the service life of the backup battery to a few years. Some say 1-2 years. By keeping the computer connected to the main, albeit turned off, a battery on the PC motherboards should be good for 5-7 years. A PC should give the advanced warning when battery gets low. A dead back-up battery Hp dv2000 battery will wipe out the volatile memory and erase certain settings. After battery is replaced, the PC should again be operational.
Longevity of high-power lithium-ion
Generally speaking, batteries live longer if treated in a gentle manner. High charge voltages, excessive charge rate and extreme load conditions will have a negative effect and shorten the battery life. This also applies to high current rate lithium-ion batteries.
Not only is it better to charge lithium-ion battery at a slower charge rate, high discharge rates also contribute the extra wear and tear. Figure 3 shows the cycle life as a function of charge and discharge rates. Observe the good laboratory performance if the battery is charged and discharged at 1C. (A 0.5C charge and discharge would further improve this rating.)

Figure 3: Longevity of lithium-ion as a function of charge and discharge rates. Hp HSTNN-LB31 battery
A moderate charge and discharge puts less stress on the battery, resulting in a longer cycle life.
Battery experts agree that the life of lithium-ion depends on other factors than charge and discharge rates. Even though incremental improvements can be achieved with careful use of the battery, our environment and the services required are not always conducive to achieve optimal battery life. The longevity of a battery is often a direct result of the environmental stresses applied.

Simple Guidelines
Avoid frequent full discharges Hp EV088AA battery because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.
Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery Hp 417066-001 battery at a 40% charge level.
Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)
Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.
If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.

How to prolong lithium-based batteries (1)

Battery research is focusing heavily on lithium chemistries, so much so that one could presume that all Laptop Battery portable devices will be powered with lithium-ion batteries in the future. In many ways, lithium-ion is superior to nickel and lead-based chemistries and the applications for lithium-ion batteries are growing as a result.

Lithium-ion has not yet fully matured and is being improved continuously. New metal and chemical combinations are being tried every six months to increase energy density and prolong service life. The improvements in longevity after each change Hp laptop battery will not be known for a few years.

A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.

Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of Hp Pavilion ZE2000 battery performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off point in the equipment will do this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate. (Read more in 'Choosing the right battery Hp ze2000 battery for portable computing', Part Two.)

Aging of lithium-ion is an issue that is often ignored. A lithium-ion battery in use typically lasts between 2-3 years. The capacity loss manifests itself in increased internal resistance caused by oxidation. Eventually, the cell resistance reaches a point where the pack can no longer deliver the stored energy although the battery may still have ample charge. For this reason, an aged battery can be kept longer in applications that draw low current as opposed to a function that demands heavy compaq Presario M2000 battery loads. Increasing internal resistance with cycle life and age is typical for cobalt-based lithium-ion, a system that is used for cell phones, cameras and laptops because of high energy density. The lower energy dense manganese-based lithium-ion, also known as spinel, maintains the internal resistance through its life but loses capacity due to chemical decompositions. Spinel is primarily used for power tools.

The speed by which lithium-ion ages is governed by temperature and state-of-charge. Figure 1 illustrates the capacity loss as a function of these two parameters.

Figure 1: Permanent capacity loss of lithium-ion as a function of temperature and charge compaq m2000 battery level.

High charge levels and elevated temperatures hasten permanent capacity loss. Improvements in chemistry have increased the storage performance of lithium-ion batteries.

The mentioning of limited service life on lithium-ion has caused concern in the battery industry and I will need to add some clarifications. Let me explain:
If someone asks how long we humans live, we would soon find out that the longevity varies according to life style and living conditions that exist in different countries. Similar conditions exist with the batteries, lithium-ion in particular. Since Battery Compaq Presario V2000 battery University bases its information on the feedback from users as opposed to scientific information derived from a research lab, longevity results may differ from manufacturer' specifications. Let's briefly look at the various living conditions of the lithium-ion battery.

The worst condition is keeping a fully charged battery at elevated temperatures, which is the case with running laptop batteries. If used on main power, the battery inside a laptop will only last for 12-18 months. I must hasten to explain that the pack does not die suddenly but begins with reduced run-times.

The voltage level to which the cells are charged also plays an important role to longevity. For safety reasons, most lithium-ion cannot exceed 4.20 volts per cell. While a higher compaq v2000 battery voltage boosts capacity, the disadvantage is lower cycle life. Figure 2 shows the cycle life as a function of charge voltage.

Plus, not only does this product charge your batteries quickly and correctly, but the deep conditioning feature can both extend the life of your battery, as well as bring back additional life to a battery that's started to show its age.

You're probably asking yourself why you need to condition your batteries. Aren't the Li-Ion batteries immune to the "memory effects" that plagued the old style NiMh batteries Hp dv1000 battery ? Yes, they are - to a point! It is always best to exercise the battery cells to get the longest life and most runtime possible. And instead of the hassle of charging and draining, charging and draining, charging and draining, this charger makes conditioning a simple, painless task!

With such maintenance, you'll be sure to get the longest runtimes over the longest Hp PF723A battery lifetime possible. Whether for your stock Apple battery, or for one of our industry leading NuPower® batteries, the NewerTech Intelligent Battery Charging Station will help you to get the most from your battery by being an extremely convenient way to keep them charged and ready to go.

The one thing I love about the web is the amazing things Hp 367759-001 battery you stumble across and the many things you learn. I stumbled across this laptop battery hack when I was trying to figure out what to do about the dead battery on my old Toshiba laptop that my wife and kids use from time to time. Forget about forging over $100+ to get a replacement battery, this little video will show you hoe to do it for less that half of that. Not only will you look good by saving money, but it will make you a hero for doing it yourself.
That's a range, not an absolute cut-off point, so how can we make these batteries last as long as possible? Ignoring the exceedingly rare risk of a fire, is there any way to ensure we get the best Hp PM579A battery performance from our portable power supplies?

Follow some basic rules, and the answer is yes.

The model usage pattern is the mobile phone. Of all the rechargeable batteries we've used, the ones in phones have always proved to retain their capacity longer than batteries in laptops, cameras and MP3 players. It takes a long time, generally speaking, for a phone battery Hp Pavilion DV4000 battery to reach the point where no matter how long you charge it, it goes from full to empty in a very short space of time.

Contrast that with the netbook battery sitting next to us, which although less than a year old will discharge from full in under 20 minutes. That's with the netbook just sitting there, screen on, connected to the internet. It should last eight times that.

The keys to battery longevity are regular usage and making sure cells are recharged before they become empty. Phone batteries typically take a couple of days to run down and tend not to be constantly on and off the charger during that period. Rather than waiting until the phone has so little power it switches off, most handset owners recharge their phones when they get a Hp dv4000 battery low-charge warning, usually around ten per cent capacity

Laptop Battery Performance

chronicle what all these mysterious services do, and you should be able to figure out Laptop Battery which you need, and which you don¡¯t. Important warning: if you aren¡¯t comfortable with this lingo, you should skip this step, or get some techie friend to help you out. Less important warning: you may end up in a situation where you need to do a reboot after you get to your destination.
Do Hibernate, Do Not Suspend. I¡¯ve found that my Vaio tends to use way too much battery when in suspend mode. Not sure why, but the ¡®instant-on¡¯ effect isn¡¯t worth the extra 30-60 seconds Hp laptop battery it takes to get out of hibernation. Furthermore, the minor hit to the hard drive is unlikely to have a significant impact to your overall battery time. Also, if you weren¡¯t aware, going in and out of hibernate is much better than a full startup/shutdown sequence. Note that you might Compaq Presario X6000 battery need to manually enable Hibernate as a system option (once you have, the quick shortcut into it is ¡®windows button¡¯ followed by U followed by H, and some PCs will have even faster shortcuts available as well). If you make a run to the bathroom, however, that¡¯s worth a quick Standby, but anything over 10 minutes and I¡¯d Hibernate instead.
Tweak advanced settings. Virtually all laptops manufactured in the past 24 months have some advanced power options. Mine, for example, allows me to go into 16-bit color mode, force the CPU into a power-saving mode, disable my LAN port, and more. This might seem obvious, but if you aren¡¯t doing it already, go find these settings (probably in the control panel, or possibly through custom Hp Pavilion ZV5000 battery software provided by your manufacturer) and get aggressive with them! If you don¡¯t have any extra control, one good extra tip is to manually force your screen into lower color modes, as they use less CPU overall and can make a huge difference in the long run. While you are at it, you might want to change your Alarms settings, as many laptops default to shutting down with as much as 10% of your battery still available (my Low Battery is just an alert at 5%, and my Critical is force hibernate at 1%)!Hp zv5000 battery

Choose Wisely. Good: Word, Excel, Outlook, Text Editors. Bad: anything by Adobe (you think Microsoft has bloatware, have you noticed how long even Acrobat takes to launch these days???), all Google plugins, many ¡®Widgets¡¯, ¡®Gadgets¡¯, etc. All I can say is pick your battles wisely. 50 minutes of a video game ate up over 2 hours of my battery time, whereas writing email or documents tend to use up less than what Windows predicts (about 105% of the estimate on average). I¡¯ve also found WinDVD is right on the money for battery consumption, and Windows Media Player is a little power-hungry (by the way, if you are using your laptop to play music make certain you disable visualizations). On that note, don¡¯t use your laptop to play music unless absolutely necessary, it¡¯s a real resource Hp Pavilion ZV6000 battery killer.
Watch That Hard Drive. I just wrote, don¡¯t play music, but the reason is mostly about your drive. The more it spins, the more power it takes. Make sure you¡¯ve set your basic power option to turn off your drive relatively fast, but not necessarily too fast. Some drives use more power getting started than staying running for short periods of time. I set my Vaio to turn off the disk after 3 minutes of inactivity, you may want more, you may want less. At the end of the day, if you are doing anything that prevents the hard drive from spinning down ever, you are draining your battery more than needed.
Like a Boy Scout, Be Prepared. Hp zv6000 battery I make a point of configuring my ¡®flight mode¡¯ prior to getting on the plane. It may only take 5-10 minutes to get your system setup properly, but that just eats into your battery life if you wait to do it on the plane. Once done with all the settings, the last thing I do before unplugging my power supply is hibernating the PC.
I hope some of these tips help you out. Personally, I add around 30 minutes (or more) to the longevity of my standard battery (3:30 on average now), and almost an hour on the extended one (6:30 or so). This gives me almost 10 hours of combined life (4 full DVDs guaranteed), which suits me quite well.Hp Pavilion DV1000 battery

I am on the planes a decent amount of the time and tend to spend a chunk of my flights using my laptop

Most of the time it¡¯s productive, but it can also include a DVD or the occasional game Hp laptop battery (either Nethack or Battle for Middle-Earth 2, which are obviously similar). When I was a-hunting for a laptop, battery life was a key criterion in my selection process, as was weight. While I like my Vaio VGN SZ-160P, the standard battery was lasting about 3 hours (the extended life clocks in under six hours before my tweaks), not enough for the SFO-JFK route (now switching to SFO-EWR as a default due to Manhattan traffic, which is a huge bummer because United¡¯s P.S. flights have standard AC outlets on board).

So I did a lil¡¯ Googlin¡¯ for tips on extending battery Laptop Battery life, and I found them all pretty, well, lacking. Stuff like ¡°don¡¯t try to do real-time 3d rendering¡± or ¡°fully charge up your battery before flying.¡± One of them even said ¡°buy an extra battery.¡± Not exactly helpful (Sony¡¯s tips are in the picture on the right). The most common tip that I¡¯ve found truly deceptive is on disabling wireless: many claim it makes a huge impact to disable it, but personally I¡¯ve only noticed a minor difference. I do in fact disable it (and Bluetooth) but on my Vaio the difference was about 10 minutes over 3 hours Hp 346970-001 battery (but as I state below, it all adds up).

Alas, I¡¯ve gone and done a lot of experimenting and have a list of my tips to really maximize battery life for my laptop.

Key to this process is having some good methodology. While testing, I kept a plain text file on my Desktop (creatively called ¡°battery.txt¡±) tracking the real clock as well as Windows¡¯ expected battery life. The problem with the Windows tool, is it really just tells you the current state of the battery Hp HSTNN-DB02 battery based on the current system activity. This means if you start with 3 hours remaining then spend 30 minutes doing something that rapidly consumes the battery, you¡¯ll be down to 2 or less. In other words, you need to track the actual history/lifespan of your battery if you want to get the best information out of your system. You can check out my little tracking file for inspiration.

And now, with no more delay, here¡¯s Jeremy¡¯s Tips for Maximizing Your Battery, or How to Fly From San Francisco to New York City With an Average Battery and Not Have to Watch an Ernest Goes to Anywhere Movie):

Brightness: how low can you go? Without any question, the fastest way to suck the life out of a battery Hp HSTNN-UB02 battery is leaving your brightness high. Turn it down as low as you possibly can without needing to up your glasses prescription. On my Vaio, I can select from one of 8 levels. During one test, at brightness level 3 my system reported 60% full, with 3:52 (all times are hours:minutes) of life to go. I switched up to level 5 and in 17 minutes of use, I was down to 52% full, with 3:06 to go. In other words, 17 minutes used 46 minutes worth of battery (all other variables were held constant). You can even be so bold as to lower Hp DP390A battery your brightness all the way down when sitting idle for a minute or two (for example, if you are writing a long blog post and pause to clarify your thoughts before typing).
Don¡¯t use any external devices. USB and PC-Cards (aka PC-MCIA) use your battery to function, even when you aren¡¯t using them! Have an EVDO card or maybe a USB mouse? Remove them if you can. Even a memory card reader in your PC-MCIA slot uses power just by being in there. The effect varies based on the type of device, but even a few minutes here and there (as you¡¯ll see) add up significantly.
Single-task, not multi-task. Compaq PP2100 battery The more you are doing at the same time with your PC, the more memory and CPU usage increases. Both of which directly use up battery. Close any applications you aren¡¯t using, even the small ones. When doing some experimentation, I found it more efficient to run a single application at a time, then close it and open a new one when ready to move on. While your hard drive uses the battery too, if you are doing anything ¡®productive¡¯ you are probably hitting the drive on a regular (even if infrequent) basis anyway.
Keep it cool. You can take a page out of the extreme gamer¡¯s handbooks, and have your system perform more optimally by keeping it cool. Make sure your air vents Compaq Presario R3000 battery (inflow and outflow) aren¡¯t blocked by anything, which often occurs by poorly positioning your notebook on your lap (which is known to have some other side-effects too, by the way). Heavy CPU and memory use all contribute to heat as well, hence my comment on multi-tasking above.
Shut down unused services. MSN Messenger, Google Desktop Search, QuickTime, wireless managers, etc. They¡¯ve all gotta go. You probably aren¡¯t going to use them, and they all eat up valuable resources. Especially things that ¡¯scan¡¯ anything. For advanced users, I also recommend launching Windows Task Manager and getting rid of anything not used in-flight. In fact, I put together another little text file with a list of all the services I don¡¯t use, and I go down the list and manually Compaq r3000 battery shut down each one. If you really want to get this one right, a little bit of research is in order. While online, I launched the task manager (control-shift-escape) and for each service that has my User Name, I googled it. There are a few good web sites out there which

Seven Tips for Better Notebook Battery Life

Ever been on a long flight, ready to hunker down and get some work done, only to discover that your notebook's battery Laptop Battery is plunging toward the red zone an hour after takeoff? So have we. That's why we've gathered these simple tips that will preserve your notebook's juice and boost your productivity. Read them now. You'll thank yourself later.

1. Sleep Is Good
Use the operating system's Hp laptop battery power-management features (in Windows XP, under Power Options in the Control Panel; or in Vista, under Mobile PC in the Control Panel) to set aggressive targets for when the display will go dark (say, after five minutes of inactivity) and when the machine will slip into sleep mode (no longer than ten minutes of inactivity). And if you can spare the extra time it takes for the machine to resume, set the PC to hibernate, not just sleep, when you close the lid.

2. Don't Be Performance Hungry
Unless you're running high-order mathematical calculations on that long plane ride, chances are you don't need all the processing power Hp OmniBook 6000 battery your CPU is capable of giving. So in Vista, select the "Power saver" power plan (found in the Control Panel, in the Power Options section) to extend battery life when on DC power, and leave the 3D gaming for when you're near an AC outlet.

3. Dim the Lights
Turn down the brightness Hp F1739A battery of the LCD panel (via the Function-key combo, or in the Control Panel's Display Settings dialog) to the lowest level you can tolerate. The backlight sucks power like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

4. Banish Non-Essential Components
When you aren't actively using the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IR radios, turn them off (via the hard switch, if your PC has it, or in the appropriate utility set), so they don't trickle you dry trying to connect. Also, use USB-attached devices only when absolutely necessary. They aren't getting their power from positive ions in the air, you know.Hp Omnibook XE battery

5. Watch Scheduled Tasks
Be sure that your periodic virus scan is set to a time when you're usually plugged in; running a full-disk virus check keeps the hard drive and CPU fully engaged for the better part of an hour.

6. Lay Off the Multimedia
A little in-flight music is nice Hp F2024B battery while you construct that PowerPoint presentation, but streaming music from your hard drive (or playing a CD) means the disk (or disc) is always spinning.

7. Get More Juice
Let everyone else fight over that free AC outlet. Designed to sit underneath your notebook, the APC Universal Notebook Battery 70 ($149; www.apcc.com) can provide up to six hours of endurance using its lithium polymer technology. It comes with a variety of notebook tips and features selectable output voltages. The unit adds 1.8 pounds to your carry-on, but it's better than having your laptop Hp F2024A battery run out of gas midflight.

Current compatibility problems in the laptop

Current compatibility problems in the laptop trade are reflective of the early era of personal computer hardware, when there were many d Laptop Battery ifferent manufacturers, each and every one of them having their own connectivity and mounting systems and incompatibility was the norm. While there are accepted world standards of form factors for all the peripherals and add-in PC cards used in the desktop computers, there are still no firm worldwide standards relating to today¡¯s laptops¡¯ internal form factors, such as supply of electric voltage, motherboard layouts, internal adapters used in connecting the optical drive, LCD cable, keyboard and floppy drive to the main board. Most affected by this Hp Pavilion ZT1000 battery are users uneducated in the relevant fields, especially if they attempt to connect their laptops with incompatible hardware or power adapters.
Some parts, such as hard drives and memory are commodity items and are interchangeable. However, other parts such as motherboards, keyboards, and batteries are proprietary in design and are only interchangeable within a manufacters brand and/or model line.
A significant point to note is that the vast majority of laptops on the market are manufactured by a small handful of ODMs.[4] The ODM matters more than the OEM. Hp Pavilion XZ200 batteryMajor relationships include:
Quanta sells to (among others) HP/Compaq, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Fujitsu, Acer, NEC, Gateway and IBM - note that Quanta is currently (as of August, 2007) the largest manufacturer of notebook computers in the world
Compal sells to Toshiba, HP/Compaq, Acer, and Dell
Wistron sells to HP/Compaq, Dell, IBM, NEC, and Acer
Arima sells to HP/Compaq, NEC, and Dell Hp Pavilion ZT1100 battery
Uniwill/ECS sells to IBM, Fujitsu, and Dell
Asus sells to Apple (iBook), Sony, and Samsung
Inventec sells to HP/Compaq, Toshiba, and BenQ
Durability Issues
Due to their portablility and tight integration, laptops are more subject to wear and physical damage than desktops. Components such as batteries, screen hinges, power jacks, and power cords are commonly subject to deterioration due to ordinary use. A liquid spill onto the keyboard, which is rather minor mishap with a desktop system can damage costly components such as the motherboard or LCD panel. Dropping a laptop can damage the LCD screen if not break apart its body. The repair costs of a failed motherboard or LCD panel may exceed the purchase value of the laptop.
Some manufacturers have mitigated some of these problems by selling "ruggedized" laptops. These often have a special drain in the keyboard that safely routes all of the Hp Omnibook XT1000 battery water out through a hole in the bottom of the case. Additionally, the bodies of these laptops are typically made of magnesium alloy instead of plastic, and hard drives are often braced to greatly increase their chances of surviving a waist-high fall.
Advantages
The main advantage of laptops over their larger desktop counterparts is the inherent portability. Another advantage is the laptop¡¯s ability to operate on battery power in the case of a power outage.

Upgradeability
Laptops¡¯ upgradeability is Hp Omnibook XT1500 battery severely limited, both for technical and economic reasons. As of 2006, there is no industry-wide standard form factor for laptops. Each major laptop vendor pursues its own proprietary design and construction, with the result that laptops are difficult to upgrade and exhibit high repair costs. With few exceptions, laptop components can rarely be Hp OmniBook 6000 batteryswapped between laptops of competing manufacturers, or even between laptops from the different product-lines of the same manufacturer. Standard feature peripherals (such as audio, video, USB, 1394, WiFi, Bluetooth) are generally integrated on the main PCB (motherboard), and thus upgrades often require using external ports, card slots, or wireless peripherals. Other components, such as RAM modules, hard dell Inspiron 6400 battery drives, and batteries are typically user-upgradeable.

Many laptops have removable CPUs, although support for other CPUs is restricted to the specific models supported by the laptop motherboard. The socketed CPUs are perhaps for the manufacturer¡¯s convenience, rather than the end-user, as few manufacturers try new CPUs in last year¡¯s laptop model with an eye toward selling upgrades rather than new laptops. In many other laptops, the CPU is soldered and non-replaceable. [5]
Many laptops also include an internal MiniPCI Hp F2019 battery slot, often occupied by a WiFi or Bluetooth card, but as with the CPU, the internal slot is often restricted in the range of cards that can be installed. The widespread adoption of USB mitigates I/O connectivity to a great degree, although the user must carry the USB peripheral as a separate item.
NVidia and ATI have proposed a standardized interface for laptop GPU upgrades (such as an MXM), but again, choices are limited compared to the desktop PCIe/AGP after-market.
In January 2007, Asus announced XG Station external video card for laptops. XG Station is connected to the laptops using USB-2 and Express card interface.
In February 2007, a new standard for external PCI Express cables and connectors was announced. Future laptops can be expanded using external Hp F2019A battery PCI Express backplane and chassis.
Performance
A modern mid-range HP Laptop.
For a given price range (and manufacturing base), laptop computational power has traditionally trailed that of desktops. This is partly due to most laptops sharing RAM between the program memory and the graphics adapter. By virtue of their usage goals, laptops prioritize energy efficiency and compactness over absolute performance. Desktop computers and their modular components are built to fit much bigger standard enclosures, along with the expectation of AC line power. As such, energy efficiency and portability for desktops are secondary design goals compared to absolute performance.
For typical home (personal use) applications, where the computer spends the majority of its time sitting idle for the Hp F2019B battery next user input, laptops of the thin-client type or larger are generally fast enough to achieve the required performance. 3D gaming, multimedia (vi

Hard disk from a Dell Latitude

Most modern laptops feature 12 inch (30 cm) or larger active matrix displays with resolutions of 1024¡Á768 pixels Laptop Battery and above, and have a PC Card (formerly PCMCIA) or ExpressCard expansion bay for expansion cards. Internal hard disks are physically smaller¡ª2.5 inch (60 mm)¡ªcompared to the standard desktop 3.5 inch (90 mm) drive, and usually have lower performance and power consumption. Video and sound chips are usually integrated. This tends to limit the use of laptops for gaming and entertainment, two fields which have constantly escalating hardware demands.[1] However, higher end laptops can come with dedicated graphics processors, such as the Dell Inspiron E1505 Compaq Presario 2500 battery and E1705, which can be bought with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 or similar. These mobile graphics processors tend to have less performance than their desktop counterparts, but this is because they have been optimized for lower power usage.

There is a wide range of laptop specific processors available from Intel (Pentium M, Celeron, Intel Core and Intel Core 2) and from AMD (Athlon, Turion 64, and Sempron) and also from VIA (C3 and C7-M). Motorola and IBM developed and manufactured the chips for the former PowerPC-based Apple laptops (iBook and PowerBook). Generally, laptop processors are less powerful than their desktop compaq 2500 battery counterparts, due to the need to save energy and reduce heat dissipation. However, the PowerPC G3 and G4 processor generations were able to offer almost the same performance as their desktop versions, limited mostly by other factors, such as the system bus bandwidth; recently, though, with the introduction of the G5s, they have been far outstripped. At one point, the Pismo G3, at up to 500 MHz, was faster than the fastest desktop G3 (then the B&W G3), which ran at 450 MHz.Compaq Presario NX9010 battery

Some parts for a modern laptop have no corresponding part in a desktop computer. For example, current models use lithium ion and more recently lithium polymer batteries, which have largely replaced the older nickel metal-hydride technology. Typical battery life for most laptops is two to five hours with light-duty use, but may drop to as little as one hour with intensive use. Batteries gradually deteriorate over time and eventually need to be replaced in one to five years, depending on the charging and discharging pattern.Compaq Presario NX9000 batter

Docking stations became another common laptop accessories in the early 1990s. They typically were quite large and offered 3.5" and 5.25" storage bays, one to three expansion slots (typically AT style), and a host of connectors. The mating between the laptop and docking station was typically through a large, high-speed, proprietary connector. The most common use was in a corporate computing environment where the company had standardized on a common network card and this same card was placed into the docking station. These stations were very large and quite expensive. As the need to additional storage and expansion slots became dell 8N544 battery less critical because of the high integration inside the laptop itself, the emergence of the Port Replicator as a major accessory commenced. The Port Replicator was often a passive device that simply mated to the connectors on the back of the notebook and allowed the user to quickly connect their laptop so VGA, PS/2, RS-232, etc. devices were instantly attached. As higher speed ports like USB and Firewire became commonplace, the Port Replication was accomplished by a small cable connected to one of the USB 2.0 or FireWire Hp F2299A battery ports on the notebooks. Wireless Port Replicators followed.

Virtually all laptops can be powered from an external AC converter. This device typically adds half a kilogram (1 lb) to the overall "transport weight" of the equipment.
A pointing stick or touchpad is used to control the position of the cursor on the screen. The pointing stick is usually a rubber dot that is located between the G, H and B keys on the laptop keyboard. To navigate the cursor, pressure is applied in the direction intended to move. The touchpad is touch-sensitive and the cursor can be navigated by moving the finger on the pad.

Intel, Asus, Compal, Quanta and other laptop manufacturers have created Common Building Block Hp F3172A battery standard for laptop parts.

A 1997 Micron laptop

As technology improved during the 1990s, the usefulness and popularity of laptops increased. Correspondingly prices Laptop Battery went down. Several developments specific to laptops were quickly implemented, improving usability and performance. Among them were:

Improved battery technology. The heavy lead-acid batteries were replaced with lighter and more efficient technologies, first nickel cadmium or NiCD, then nickel metal hydride (NiMH) and then lithium ion battery and lithium polymer.
Power-saving processors. While laptops Hp F4098A battery in 1991 were limited to the 80286 processor because of the energy demands of the more powerful 80386, the introduction of the Intel 386SL processor, designed for the specific power needs of laptops, marked the point at which laptop needs were included in CPU design. The 386SL integrated a 386SX core with a memory controller and this was paired with an I/O chip to create the SL chipset. It was more integrated than any previous solution although its cost was higher. It was heavily adopted by the major notebook brands of the time. Intel followed this with the Hp F4809A battery 486SL chipset which used the same architecture. However, Intel had to abandon this design approach as it introduced its Pentium series. Early versions of the mobile Pentium required TAB mounting (also used in LCD manufacturing) and this initially limited the number of companies capable of supplying notebooks. However, Intel did eventually migrate to more standard chip packaging. One limitation of notebooks has always been the difficulty in upgrading the processor which is a common attribute of Hp F4812A battery desktops. Intel did try to solve this problem with the introduction of the MMC for mobile computing. The MMC was a standard module upon which the CPU and external cache memory could sit. It gave the notebook buyer the potential to upgrade his CPU at a later date, eased the manufacturing process somewhat, and was also used in some cases to skirt U.S. import duties as the CPU could be added to the chassis after it arrived in the U.S. Intel stuck with MMC for a few generations but ultimately could not maintain the appropriate speed and data integrity to the memory subsystem through the MMC connector.
Improved liquid crystal displays, in particular active-matrix TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) LCD technology. Early laptop screens were black and white, blue and white, or Hp 319411-001 battery grayscale, STN (Super Twist Nematic) passive-matrix LCDs prone to heavy shadows, ghosting and blurry movement (some portable computer screens were sharper monochrome plasma displays, but these drew too much current to be powered by batteries). Color STN screens were used for some time although their viewing quality was poor. By about 1991, two new color LCD technologies hit the mainstream market in a big way; Dual STN and TFT. The Dual STN screens solved many of the viewing problems of STN at Compaq Presario 2100 battery a very affordable price and the TFT screens offered excellent viewing quality although initially at a steep price. DSTN continued to offer a significant cost advantage over TFT until the mid-90s before the cost delta dropped to the point that DSTN was no longer used in notebooks. Improvements in production technology meant displays became larger, sharper, had higher native resolutions, faster response time and could display color with great accuracy, making them an acceptable substitute for a traditional CRT monitor.
Improved storage technology. Early laptops and portables had only floppy disk drives. As thin, high-capacity hard disk drives with higher dell Inspiron E1505 battery reliability and shock resistance and lower power consumption became available, users could store their work on laptop computers and take it with them. The 3.5" HDD was created initially as a response to the needs of notebook designers that needed smaller, lower power consumption products. With continuing pressure to shrink the notebook size even further, the 2.5" HDD was introduced. One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) and other new laptops use Flash RAM (non volatile, non mechanical memory device) instead of the mechanical hard disk.
Improved connectivity. Internal modems and standard serial, parallel, and PS/2 ports on IBM PC-compatible laptops made it easier to work away from home; the addition of network adapters and, from 1997, USB, as well as, from 1999, Wi-Fi, made laptops as easy to use with peripherals as a desktop computer. Many newer laptops are also available with built-in 3G Broadband wireless modems.
Other peripherals may include an integrated video camera and fingerprint compaq 2100 battery sensor.
